Privacy Policy

Haven Books (“Haven Books”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is built by Haven Software. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Haven Books mobile app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
We built Haven Books to be calm and private by default. We collect only what we need to make the app work, we do not sell your personal information, and we do not show you ads.
By using Haven Books, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, or your photos, and we do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- provide, maintain, and sync your library across your devices;
- operate the social features you choose to use, according to your visibility settings;
- send push notifications you have enabled (such as friend requests, lending recalls, and duel updates);
- understand how the app is used so we can improve it;
- diagnose problems, fix bugs, and keep Haven Books secure; and
- communicate with you about support requests.
How your information is shared
We share data only with the service providers that help us run Haven Books (“sub-processors”), and only as needed to provide the app:

When you search for a book or scan a barcode, the search term or ISBN is sent to our book-data provider to fetch details such as the cover, title, and page count. This lookup is not tied to your account.
We do not otherwise sell, rent, or share your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or Haven Software.
Your choices and rights
You are in control of your data:
- Access & export. You can export your library to a file at any time from Settings → Account → Export my library.
- Edit. You can edit or delete individual books, sessions, reviews, collections, and other content directly in the app.
- Notifications. Push notifications are optional. You can turn them off at any time in Settings, which also removes your push token from our servers.
- Delete your account. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Account → Delete account. This action is irreversible.
- Discoverability. You can control whether other readers can find you, and who can see your library and collections, using the privacy controls in the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email support@havensoftware.io. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data from our systems, except where we are required to retain limited records to comply with legal obligations. Backups and diagnostic data are deleted on a rolling basis.
Security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls that restrict each account to its own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.
Children’s privacy
Haven Books is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
International users
Haven Books is operated from the United States, and some of our service providers process data in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Haven Books after an update means you accept the revised policy.
